Inspiration By Confucius

When considering the nature of things, a variety of historical figures are cited as influential. While many of them have merit, Confucius stands alone.

Inspiration Given By Confucius

Confucius is considered one of the great thinkers of Asia and, indeed, the world. He was a Chinese philosopher believed to have lived in the fifth century BC. His teachings are primarily derived from The Analects Of Confucius. The cover issues such as personal morality, war, governing, justice and sincerity to mention only a few subjects. Here are a few of his inspirational and thoughtful quotes.

When anger rises, think of the consequences.

He who speaks without modesty will find it difficult to make his words good.

To see what is right and not to do it is want of courage.

The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved.

They must often change who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.

When we see men of a contrary character, we should turn inwards and examine ourselves.

Fine words and an insinuating appearance are seldom associated with true virtue.

To be able under all circumstances to practice five things constitutes perfect virtue; these five things are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness.

Have no friends not equal to yourself.

By nature, men are nearly alike; by practice, they get to be wide apart.

He who exercises government by means of his virtue may be compared to the north polar star, which keeps its place and all the stars turn towards it.

Reading the above thoughts, it is hardly difficult to ascertain why the writing and sayings of Confucius have stood the test of time. Indeed, it is hard to imagine any more inspiring thoughts being produced by any figure of the modern era.

The Analects Of Confucius

Confucius said:"In a group of three people, there is always something I can learn from. Choose to follow the strengths of others, use the shortcomings to reflect upon ourselves." - Chapter Seven, Confucius Quotes

As you can see from here, everyone that we come across can teach us something useful. As long as we reflect on the lessons learnt from and by other people, we can continuously improve ourselves. But take note that when you reflect on these lessons, you apply some wisdom to it because each situation is unique although there will be common principles in them.

We can learn a lot thing from everyone. In this society that we are living in, we always tend to learn from those that are higher in status or having more knowledge than us, but that is not really the case. We can learn from those that are lower than us in status as well. Why is this so? This is because the experience and knowledge that we accumulate in each and every second of our lives is very different, even from our own family members.

The best thing about this type of learning, reflecting other people's strength and shortcomings onto ourselves, is that we do not pay for the mistakes that are made. The only cost that we incur is the time that is needed to capture and reflect on these lessons learnt by other people.

As we all know the costs of some mistakes can be one where people cannot afford to make, for instance a broken friendship or financial losses. Thus constant reflection of other people's strength and shortcoming onto ourselves makes us realize the costs of these mistakes and make improvements in our lives, thus reducing the incidence of making mistakes.

What can we do now to learn from others? By keeping our eyes and ears open. Be observant and able to realize what strengths and shortcomings other people have. These lessons would be difficult to capture since the nature of it is not like our classroom lessons where things we need to learn are handed out to us explicitly. But once we capture them, we benefit tremendously from it. Be a listener. A lot of people in this world like to complain about their lives. Listen to them and make your own assessment and from your own assessment, reflect onto your life and make improvements on it if any.
